Christopher Furman:
Flashlights: Conversations in the murky past, 1999
Steel, motors antique flashlights
"The Flashlights are engaged in a conversation whose subject is about searching for some one, or some thing. There they are, talking about searching, when they are in front of each other. Ironic and sad. Pathetic little fuckers."

Observation. As infinitely small as it is, so is it infinitely big, 2004
Steel, motors, television, cameras, brass.
"Observation. As infinitely small as it is, so is it infinitely big is a piece that has slowly developed over time. It is actually the coming together of several other pieces. The idea is of a character that is having these flash images of a solar system - or are they an image of a simple atomic structure? The implications are that patterns are repeated throughout the universe and that "as infinitely small as it is, so is it infinitely big". The gesture of the TV character is one of searching bewilderment."

"Both pieces are part of a cast of characters that I create. I build these objects that take an idiosyncratic gesture and highlight it in a small theatrical piece. So, what I try to accomplish is a self-contained mechanical theater. However, there is no real beginning or end. Just a momentary observation of the human spirit caught in a moment in time."
